Are portable Solar Powered chargers any good?

Would one charge an i pod for a period of about 5 weeks?
Would one serve to charge an i pod over a period of 5 weeks?

What the iPod really wants is 5 volts (USB voltage) at 500 mA. If the charger will supply this, then I see no reason why it won’t work. That’s bigger than most of the little chargers I’ve seen. With the best widely available Solar Cells, that would be about 8″ x 8″, or possibly several square feet with a lesser grade of Solar Cell.

This would also mean that you need to keep your iPod in the charger for several hours during the day, not charge it at night while you sleep. Would that work for you?
